Description Biocytin is a conjugate of biotin and lysine which is widely used as a neuroanatomical tracer.

Applications Biocytin is taken up by neurons and rapidly transported in both anterograde and retrograde directions. Due to the high affinity for avidin consequently, it can be used for light, fluorescence, or electron microscope detection by various avidin and streptavidin-conjugated markers.
