Crohn's Disease Research Services
Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic, relapsing inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The inflammation in Crohn's disease affects the entire intestinal tract, with the most commonly affected area being the distal ileum. The exact cause of Crohn's disease is unknown, but it is likely to be due to a combination of a dysregulated immune response, altered microbiota (dysbiosis), genetic susceptibility, and environmental factors that lead to disruption of barrier function. There is no known cure, and the disease can be managed through a combination of immunosuppressive medications, dietary changes, or surgery.
