Ace Therapeutics is at the forefront of developing custom astrocyte models, which empower clients to obtain fresh perspectives on glaucoma, pinpoint potential therapeutic targets, and evaluate the efficacy of innovative therapeutics.
Introduction to Astrocytes
Astrocytes, a vital subtype of macroglia, are located in the retina, optic nerve head (ONH), and visual brain. They play a crucial role in maintaining neuronal homeostasis, regulating neuronal activities, and participating in immune responses to retinal and brain injuries. In glaucoma, astrocytes exhibit heterogeneous responses that can be both beneficial and detrimental to the survival of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). Given this complexity, understanding these complex interactions is essential to developing effective therapies for glaucoma.

Astrocyte Model Construction Services
At Ace Therapeutics, our team of scientists has extensive experience in glaucoma research and astrocyte biology. We are committed to providing a wide range of custom astrocyte models specifically tailored for glaucoma research and therapeutic development.
Primary Astrocyte Cultures
We offer primary cultures of retinal astrocytes, ONH astrocytes, and visual brain astrocytes derived from various species, providing a native environment for researchers to study astrocyte behavior under glaucomatous conditions.
Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC)-Derived Astrocytes
Leveraging our iPSC technology, we are able to generate astrocytes from iPSCs. These iPSC-derived astrocytes enable researchers to screen and evaluate potential therapeutic drugs.
Transgenic Astrocyte Models
Utilizing genetic engineering techniques, we develop transgenic models that express specific markers or mutations associated with glaucoma, enabling targeted studies on disease mechanisms.
Co-culture Systems
We engineer co-culture systems that integrate astrocytes with retinal neurons or other relevant cell types to study intercellular interactions and their implications in glaucoma pathology.
Astrocyte Model Applications
Leveraging our custom astrocyte models, we provide comprehensive testing services to support therapeutic target identification, drug discovery, and efficacy evaluations.
- Mechanism studies (apoptosis, neuronal viability and neuroinflammation, etc.)
- Neuroprotection and neuroregeneration
- Biomarker discovery
- Drug screening
- Gene therapy development
- Cell therapy development
