Intestinal Perforation Research Services
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) results in numerous complications due to inflammatory damage to the intestinal mucosa. One complication of IBD is perforation of the intestines. Intestinal perforation occurs when chronic inflammation and ulceration of the intestine weakens the wall to such an extent that a hole develops in the intestinal wall. This perforation is potentially lifethreatening because the contents of the intestine, which contain a large number of bacteria, can spill into the abdomen and cause a serious infection called peritonitis. The mortality rate is 50% if perforation occurs. More research is needed to face the challenges posed by this complication.
Customized Studies for Intestinal Perforation
Ace Therapeutics is a research service provider in IBD, providing customized preclinical reaearch services to help pharmaceutical and biotech companies develop effective therapies for perforation caused by intestinal inflammation. We offer a one-stop service, from model building, target identification and validation, to drug efficacy evaluation. No matter where you are in the drug discovery process, our approach is designed to help you make better decisions faster.
Animal Models for Intestinal Perforation
- Animal models of spontaneous intestinal perforation. Intestinal perforation occurs either by knocking out a specific genotype or mutant strain, or spontaneously without any intervention.
- Colonoscopic leakage model. Use a colonoscopic biopsy grasper to make a controlled transmural perforation in the colon. This model for peritonitis with defined parameters as well as a defined and predictable course, in order to work on complex clinical problems of the peritonitis, involving numerous interdependent variables.
Study Endpoints
- Observing animals regularly for symptoms such as diarrhea, weight changes, mucus/blood stools, etc.
- Recording indicators such as time of occurrence, location, and size of the intestinal perforation.
- Endoscopy and histologic analysis can be performed to assess the degree of inflammation.
- Examining leaking intestinal contents.
- Evaluating histologic changes in the peritoneum.
- Ex vivo assays of ileal perforation and peristalsis
