Customized Rodent Models of Glaucoma

Selecting animal models of glaucoma that best represent human disease is key to the successful translation of preclinical research into clinical practice. Ace Therapeutics has successfully developed several rodent glaucoma models with advanced technology, including IOP-dependent and IOP-independent models. Our dedicated research team will help you investigate your drug candidates and screen the most suitable glaucoma models. Here you can get any target model you want.

Rodent Models of Glaucoma

Glaucoma and Rodent Models

Glaucoma is a group of ocular diseases characterized by progressive optic neuropathy. The death of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) is a major factor in the pathophysiology of these diseases, related to intraocular pressure (IOP) levels. Since the pathogenesis of glaucoma is still unclear, it is necessary to establish functional, reproducible and easy-to-use animal models to study the mechanism of glaucoma and the development of new therapies. Rodents have been used extensively to represent changes in glaucoma in the presence and absence of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) because of their distinct advantages over other animal species. The advantage of rats is based on their similarity to humans with regard to anatomical and developmental features of the anterior segment, aqueous humor circulation, and changes in the optic nerve caused by elevated intraocular pressure; the advantage of mice lies in the availability of genetic tools.

Service Overview

High-quality glaucoma animal models are established to closely mimic human RGC and optic nerve loss, which helps to elucidate disease mechanisms and evaluate new therapies. As an ocular disease model provider, Ace Therapeutics has developed a variety of rodent models of glaucoma with advanced technology in recent years. At Ace Therapeutics, we use standard glaucoma induction protocols and genetic manipulation protocols to create this condition. After the model is established, our expert team verifies the model's reliability by testing multiple indicators, including:

  • Intraocular pressure measurement
  • Fundus photography (color)
  • Ocular coherence tomography (OCT)
  • Optomotry
  • Pathological analyses and imaging
