Customized Chicken Models of Myopia

The availability of the chick model allows the assessment of structural and functional changes associated with myopia progression under well-controlled conditions. To support this research for customers worldwide, Ace Therapeutics has developed the chick form deprivation myopia (FDM) model through continuous exploration. This model is a common model of human myopia and can help your emmetropization research pave the way.

Chicken Models of Myopia

Why Is the Chicken Model Suitable for Myopia Research?

Despite myopia's worldwide prevalence, the precise molecular mechanisms underlying myopi's pathogenesis remain largely unknown. As an attractive model, the chicken model is still one of the main models for myopia research. His strengths include 1) A relatively large pair of eyes. 2) Eye growth rate is faster (approximately 100 microns/day) than in other animal species studied. (3) Refractive state through retinal image quality and focus for highly sensitive control. 4) Excellent optical performance. 5) High visual acuity (7 cycles/degree). 6) Easy drug delivery by intravitreal injection. 7) Handleable and easy to maintain.

Service Overview

Ace Therapeutics is a developer and supplier of innovative ocular diseases, and here we are pleased to offer chicken myopia models to advance your projects.

The chick is known to be the most widely studied and ideal model for myopia due to its ease of manipulation, relatively large eyes, and relatively rapid eye growth during juvenile development. Our talented scientists are constantly exploring and developing different models of chicken myopia to meet researchers' needs, and are still working on developing new models.

Chick Form Deprivation Myopia (FDM) Model

Ace Therapeutics' researchers fix translucent white plastic goggles on one eye of the chicks and alternated the experimental eyes left and right to induce form-deprivation myopia. Alternatively, chicks are exposed to reduced light intensity to produce myopia. The follow-up period was 12 days. This is a common myopia model in humans.

Model characteristics: The axial length of the eye changes, the scleral fiber layer becomes thinner, the cartilage layer thickens, and obvious refractive errors appear.

It is worth mentioning that our chicken myopia model can satisfy your visual function research after intravitreal drug injection. Other small animal models cannot provide this.

Available Support Services

To quickly and accurately measure the axial length and other eye dimensions in chicks and test the efficacy of myopia-reducing therapies, our researchers use spectral domain optical coherence tomography to measure the following indexes, including but not limited to:

  • Axial length
  • Focal length
  • Lens diameter
  • Retinal radius

In addition, we also provide refraction and ultrasonography, retinal molecular biology analysis, and many other services. What attracts our partners is taht our services cover the entire preclinical research process. Our team of experts will accompany you throughout the process to smoothly advance your project to the next stage.

Ace Therapeutics aims to provide a powerful analytical tool to help our global customers explore the mechanism of myopia and screen drug candidates to control myopia and prevent its development. If you are interested in our services or need more detailed information, please feel free to contact us. Our experienced scientists are ready to help you!
