GM-13
Primary porcine trabecular meshwork cells (TMC) are endothelial-like cells located in a sponge-like connective tissue near the front of the eye. TMC make layers of beams and regulate eye pressure by controlling drainage of fluid into tubes that flow into the bloodstream. Efflux is mediated by changes in contractility and tension of TMC. The decrease in its fluid outflow leads to increased eye pressure and gradual loss of retinal ganglion cells, leading to glaucoma and irreversible blindness.
