- Pig Models of Hepatitis E Virus Infection
Pigs, as natural hosts for genotypes 3 and 4 HEV, are important homologous animal model systems. Therefore, we have used pigs to establish a model of hepatitis E virus infection for genotypes 3 and 4. We also provide appropriate detection protocols for this virus in different infected parts of pigs, such as the liver, small intestine, colon, and lymph nodes. In addition, we have established a special pig model to evaluate the hepatitis E virus vaccine.
- Rabbit Models of Hepatitis E Virus Infection
Rabbits are natural hosts of the hepatitis E virus. We have inoculated rabbits with different rabbit strains of the hepatitis E virus, all of which showed a clear and typical course of acute infection. Therefore, we have established a protocol for the construction of a stable rabbit model.
In addition, the virus can replicate not only in the liver but also outside the liver, such as in the brain, heart, lung, stomach, and intestine. Therefore, we provide exclusive detection and evaluation protocols for different viral replication sites.
- Other Models of Hepatitis E Virus Infection
