| Gene Description | SNARK was identified as an SNF1/AMPK-related kinase and member of the AMPK catalytic subunit family. This enzyme was separately identified as a TNFα-induced SNF1-like kinase 2. The kinase activity of SNARK/NUAK2 is increased by AMP and AICAR. SNARK/NUAK2 activity is regulated by a variety of cellular stresses such as endoplasmic reticulum stress and oxidative stresses, suggesting that SNARK/NUAK2 is a signaling molecule involved in the cell stress response. |
