Target Name | MDH2 |
UniProt No. | P40926 |
Gene ID | 4191 |
Gene Description | Malate dehydrogenase is a key enzyme in the tricarboxylic acid cycle and malate/aspartate shuttle. MDH is widely expressed in organisms from most bacteria to all eukaryotes. The cytoplasmic MDH isoenzyme primarily reduces oxaloacetate to malate in the malate/aspartate shuttle. The major function of the mitochondrial MDH isoenzyme is to oxidize malate to oxaloacetate in the tricarboxylic acid cycle. |
