Gene Description | Dipeptidase-1 is a GPI-linked glycoprotein expressed in the epithelial brush border of the kidney epithelium and exists as a disulfide-linked homodimer. Research studies have shown that the enzymatic activity of DPEP-1 is involved in kidney metabolism of glutathione, leukotrienes, and β-lactam antibiotics. Independent of its enzymatic activity, DPEP-1 has been implicated in pathologic inflammation by acting as an adhesion receptor for neutrophils on endothelial cells within the lung. DPEP-1 has also been implicated in human cancer and numerous studies have demonstrated that expression of this enzyme is upregulated in colorectal cancer and promotes metastasis. |
