Target Information
Target Name CP
UniProt No. P00450
Gene ID 1356
Gene Description Ceruloplasmin is a copper-binding glycoprotein with ferroxidase activity. It oxidizes Fe2+ to Fe3+, facilitating iron transport across the cell membrane. Mutation in Ceruloplasmin causes aceruloplasminemia, an autosomal recessive disorder of iron metabolism characterized by iron accumulation in the brain as well as visceral organs, resulting in retinal degeneration, diabetes mellitus and neurological disturbances. Ceruloplasmin level in serum has been explored as a diagnostic marker for Wilson disease and ischemic heart disease.
