Gene Description | Activating Transcription Factor-6 is a transmembrane glycoprotein of the endoplasmic reticulum. Upon accumulation of improperly folded proteins in the ER, ATF-6 is cleaved liberating a 50 kDa amino-terminal fragment that translocates to the nucleus. There, ATF-6 activates transcription of ER chaperones and components of ER-associated degradation such as GRP78, XBP-1, and CHOP. |
